About
Holy Orders is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church through which a man is ordained to serve the Church as a deacon, priest, or bishop. It is a sacrament of service, where the individual is consecrated and empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry out specific roles in the Church’s mission. The sacrament is rooted in Christ’s call to His apostles, as He instituted the priesthood at the Last Supper and commanded them to “do this in memory of me” (Luke 22:19). Through Holy Orders, the ordained are given the grace to act in the person of Christ, particularly in administering the sacraments, preaching the Gospel, and guiding the faithful. The deacon serves the Church through charity, the priest through the celebration of the Eucharist and reconciliation, and the bishop, who holds the fullness of the priesthood, shepherds the faithful and ensures the continuity of the Church’s teachings. Holy Orders is a vocation that requires a deep commitment to prayer, humility, and self-sacrifice, as those ordained are called to lead by example, serve others, and help build up the Body of Christ.
